It is part of the Wessex Water Group which comprises a number of other companies alongside our regulated business, including engineering and construction, property development and waste management and renewable energy services.
Our information services department provides an end-to-end service to a wide range of internal customers, encompassing IT development, delivery and support. We are a key element in the successful growth and expansion of Wessex Water Group across both our regulated and unregulated businesses.
As a database administrator you will help provide secure, well-managed and efficient corporate databases for a range of internal customers across the group. This is a busy role with responsibility not only for maintaining 300-plus databases - underpinning hundreds of business applications across several business premises - but also for maintaining the data warehouse, OLAP data cubes and ETL processes.
Day to day, you'll work with a small team of support analysts managing and documenting data requirements, undertaking data analysis and modelling, dealing with customers queries and liaising with IS management on the development and maintenance of data standards. You'll lead on the quality assurance of data structures, business reporting standards and will assist with management of the data management policy. You'll also be evaluating packaged software and installing packaged software upgrades to corporate systems where necessary.
To do this you will need excellent technical knowledge and experience including SQL server administration, management, analysis and integration software, Microsoft Windows, Unix and Solaris operating systems, VMWare, NetApp, Sharepoint and other software such as Qlikview, Microsoft Reporting Services and Power BI.
Alongside your technical expertise you need to be able to identify the underlying issues in customers' complex problems and translate these to simpler concepts or models. General business understanding will also help you understand the context of your customers' issues and provide suitable solutions to them. Finally, your planning and organisational skills will help you deliver your project objectives in a timely and efficient way.
